Kerala is an ideal example of communal unity, where people of different religions and communities live together. Christianity in Kerala is not very recent, it is believed to be originated around 52 AD, when the apostle of Jesus Christ - St. Thomas reached here. He established churches in the 7 cities of the state. These are classified into two main categories, which are Catholic and Non Catholic Churches. These churches are dedicated to several Saints as St. Thomas, St. Augustine, St. Francis, St.. Dominic, St. Michael, St. John, St. Sebastian, St. Joseph, St. Andrew, St. George and St. Peter.

Niranam St. Mary's Orthodox Syrian Church:
According to the beliefs the church was founded in 54 AD by St. Thomas. The present structure of the church was constructed in 1912. The main attractions of the church are huge cross of granite, fragment of St. Thomas, the golden cross and remains of old church etc.

Kuravilangadu St. Mary's Forane (Martha Mariam) Church:
It is one of the oldest churches of the state, situated in Kuravilangadu, which was believed to be founded in 105 AD. The statue of the Blessed virgin Mary inside the shrine is amazing, which is beautifully carved out of granite. A 48 feet granite cross at the front of the church is the center of belief.

Karingachira St. George's Church:
It is one of the oldest churches of the state, located 1.5 km east of the town of Tripunithura. It was established in 722 AD, afterwards several constructions and extensions were made in the church. The church has its significance importance among the pilgrims.

Malayatoor Church:
Located in the backdrop of magnificent Western Ghats, along with beautiful Periyar river, this Church is acknowledged as the international pilgrim site, which attracts a good number of pilgrims. Dedicated to St. Thomas, it has a living size image of St. Thomas inside the shrine. The church reflects Greco-Roman style of architecture.

St. Francis Church:
It is situated in the Ernaculam district of Fort Kochi, which is the first Europian Church in India. Originally known as Santo Antonio, the church was constructed in 1503 AD by Portuguese, which later was converted into Protestant Church in 1663 during Dutch invasion. The church has its pretty importance for its unique architecture.
